Sun Cycles

Sun first began the production of cycle parts in 1885 and by 1906 were producing a range of machines. Their main period of fame was from the middle 20s through to the 50s. They remained a stalwart of the Birmingham bike scene up until their takeover by Raleigh in the 1960’s.

This build was based around bringing new life to a freshly powder coated vintage frameset on a budget. We used mostly BLB components including bars, stem and crankset. We hand build a custom set of purple Halo track wheels with an aerotrack rim (no braking surface) on the rear and aerorage (with braking surface) on the front. We later added straps and a front brake to keep this safe out on the road.

Old frames like these make for perfect fixed gear conversions as the dropouts are horizontal and the geo is designed for road riding as apposed to being a dedicated track bike. They also generally have much more clearance for wider tyres and fenders, making them perfect as a commuter or winter trainer.
